Abstract

People, according to the different aims, migrate to various countries. Also Turkish people have been living in many different
countries. One of the main problems for these people is learning their native language properly. Georgia is one of the neighboring
countries where many Turkish
people live.
In Georgia there are some schools, like Batum Refaaddin Shahin
friendship
school
and
Tbilisi
Nikoloz Tsereteli
School,
where
they
can follow
the
syllabus made
up
by the Ministry of
Education in
Turkey.

In
these
schools children have an opportunity to get
education in their native language. In these
schools, children study according
to the
new
12-year compulsory rules like (4+4+4) applied
in
Turkey.
The
2nd graders’
reading
skills in the mentioned
schools
were assessed and it was found that there are many factors which prevent them from developing reading
skills
quite
adequately.
Research
has
been
carried
out
to
find
out
these
reasons.
However,
the
results
of
the
research
are
quite
optimistic.
